Available Sizes

Standard Anlock-Out Bolt Blind Rivetb(OB) sizes stocked at our Bengaluru store. The OB rivet is available in steel only. Grip range is the total combined sheet thickness the rivet will correctly clamp — select a rivet whose grip range covers your stack. Drill the hole to the exact diameter shown; do not use a larger bit.

Rivet Diameter Hole Size (mm) Available Lengths (mm) Grip Range (mm) Material
4.8 mm 4.9 – 5.0 10  ·  14 1.6 – 6.9  /  1.6 – 11.1 Steel
6.4 mm 6.5 – 6.6 14  ·  20 2.0 – 9.5  /  2.0 – 15.9 Steel

Out-Bolt vs In-Bolt — What Is the Difference?

Both the In-Bolt (IB) and Out-Bolt (OB) use the same locking mandrel principle — but they differ in where the broken mandrel sits after installation. In the IB type the mandrel breaks and is retained inside the rivet body. In the OB type the mandrel breaks and the tail protrudes and locks on the outside of the rivet, forming a visible external lock. This external tail dramatically improves vibration resistance because the mandrel cannot rattle or work loose inside the barrel — it is mechanically pinned against the outside face of the substrate.

In-Bolt (IB) — Internal Lock

Mandrel retained inside the barrel

The mandrel breaks flush and is sealed inside the rivet body. This completely closes the rivet, preventing moisture from entering through the mandrel hole — ideal for outdoor and marine environments where corrosion protection is the top priority. The sealed barrel also prevents any mandrel rattle.

Best for: Outdoor panels · Coastal structures · Sealed enclosures

Out-Bolt (OB) — External Lock

Mandrel tail locks on the outside face

The mandrel tail protrudes and clamps against the outer face of the substrate. This external mechanical lock gives the OB its exceptional vibration resistance — the mandrel is physically prevented from backing out by the substrate itself. The preferred choice wherever high-frequency vibration is the primary concern, such as truck chassis, vehicle body panels and container frames.

Best for: Truck bodies · Container frames · Automotive chassis · Construction steel

How the Anlock-Out Bolt Works — 4 Steps

1

Drill & Insert

Drill a clean hole to the specified diameter (4.9–5.0 mm for 4.8 mm rivet, 6.5–6.6 mm for 6.4 mm). Insert the OB rivet through the hole from the accessible side. The flange head seats flat against the material surface.

2

Set the Tool

Place the rivet gun nosepiece over the mandrel stem. The tool grips the mandrel ready to pull. Ensure the rivet flange is flush before squeezing — a cocked rivet will not set correctly.

3

Pull & Expand

Squeezing the tool pulls the mandrel, expanding the blind end of the rivet into a wide bearing flange that clamps the materials together. The pulling force is controlled — the rivet expands progressively across the full grip range.

4

External Lock Forms

At the break point the mandrel tail does not eject — it locks against the outside face of the substrate. This is the defining OB feature: the external tail pin prevents mandrel pullout or rattle under any vibration load. Installation is complete.

Installation Notes

  • Always drill to the exact hole diameter specified — an oversized hole prevents the rivet from expanding correctly and reduces clamping force.
  • The mandrel tail will protrude from the blind side after setting — ensure there is clearance behind the joint for the external lock to form without obstruction.
  • Select the rivet length so that your total stack thickness falls within the stated grip range. Installing outside the grip range will result in under-expansion or over-expansion.
  • Use the correct nose piece size for your rivet gun — 4.8 mm and 6.4 mm require different nosepieces.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Anlock In-Bolt and the Anlock Out-Bolt?

The In-Bolt (IB) retains the broken mandrel inside the rivet body, sealing the barrel completely — best for corrosion-sensitive applications. The Out-Bolt (OB) locks the mandrel tail against the outside face of the substrate, giving a stronger mechanical lock against vibration pullout — best for truck bodies, containers and construction where vibration is the primary concern.

Is the Anlock-Out Bolt available in stainless steel or aluminium?

The OB type is available in steel only. If you need stainless steel for a corrosive or outdoor environment, the Anlock In-Bolt (IB) is available in stainless steel and aluminium and should be considered instead.

Can the Out-Bolt be used where the blind side is not accessible after riveting?

Yes — that is the defining benefit of any blind rivet. You only need access to one side to install it. The OB rivet expands and locks entirely from the accessible side. However, ensure there is sufficient clearance behind the joint for the external mandrel tail to lock against the blind face.

What rivet gun is needed for the 6.4 mm OB rivet?

A heavy-duty rivet gun with a 6.4 mm nosepiece is required. Standard lightweight rivet guns are rated for up to 4.8 mm. For 6.4 mm structural rivets we recommend a pneumatic or heavy-duty hand riveter. Contact us and we can advise on compatible riveters we stock.
