The Round Body Rivet Nut is the most widely used threaded insert in the world — and for good reason. It installs from one side only into a standard round drilled hole, making it ideal for tubes, panels, enclosures, and any application where you cannot access the back of the material. The knurled (textured) surface on the body bites into the parent material as the rivet nut is set, dramatically increasing grip and resistance to spinning under torque or vibration — a critical requirement in automotive, HVAC, and industrial assembly.
A plain round body rivet nut relies purely on friction from the collapsed bulge to stay in place. A knurled body goes further — the raised diamond or cross-hatch pattern on the exterior physically embeds into the hole wall as the fastener is set. This gives you significantly better anti-rotation performance without needing a hex-shaped hole. It makes the round body knurled rivet nut the best choice when you're working with softer materials like aluminium sheet, thin steel, plastic panels, or composite materials where a plain body would spin under load.
Installation Note: Round body knurled rivet nuts install into a standard round drilled hole — no special punching required. Use a manual hand tool for low-volume work or a pneumatic/battery-powered rivet nut tool for high-volume production. Always match the mandrel size to the thread size of the rivet nut for a clean, reliable set.

A round body rivet nut is a one-sided threaded insert that installs into a standard round drilled hole in sheet metal, tubes or panels — no access to the back of the material is needed. The knurled (textured) exterior bites into the parent material as the rivet nut is set, preventing the insert from spinning under torque or vibration. It is the most widely used rivet nut style because it needs only a simple round hole, unlike hex body rivet nuts which require a shaped punch.
Round body rivet nuts install into a standard round hole and rely on knurling for anti-rotation grip — the lowest tooling cost of any rivet nut type. Hex body rivet nuts (half hex or full hex) install into a hex-shaped punched hole and get mechanical anti-rotation from the hex profile itself, giving significantly higher spin-out resistance but requiring hex punching tooling. Choose round body for general assembly and lower tooling cost; choose hex body where very high torque or vibration resistance is critical.
Open end rivet nuts let the bolt pass fully through, so screw length can vary freely — the standard choice for most assemblies. Closed end rivet nuts have a sealed bottom that blocks water, dust and gas ingress through the fastening point, essential for outdoor, marine or pressure-sensitive joints. If sealing isn't a requirement, open end is simpler and more flexible.
Large flange spreads clamping load over the widest area — best for thin or soft materials at risk of pull-through. Reduced flange has a smaller head for tight spaces or recessed areas. Countersunk sits flush with the panel surface for a clean, flat finish, used on visible or aerodynamic surfaces. Pick based on your surface finish and space constraints, not strength alone — all three carry full thread engagement.
